Blogtober | Week Three - Marvelous Music

I feel like there are pivotal points during every year and season when it's just time to party. Around this time in October, I get ready to party all night and sleep all day (ideally).  And what's a party without some good music? A few of my go-to party songs- I'm Ready - AJR (and the remix, 'cause dayum) AfterHours - AJR Pitchfork Kids - AJR Pompeii - Bastille Things We Lost In The Fire - Bastille Of The Night - Bastille Kangaroo Court - Capital Cities Charlie Brown - Coldplay Paradise - Coldplay Burn - Ellie Goulding I Need Your Love - Ellie Goulding Flux and Flow - LIGHTS Running With The Boys - LIGHTS Cards - Minor Soul Kamikaze - Owl City Beautiful Times - Owl City Where Did The Party Go - Fall Out Boy Ain't It Fun - Paramore ...That's only a few, but they're some of my favorites. Of course, where there's parties, there's cleaning up beforehand and afterwards... Music I listen to when cleaning/decorating/working,etc- ...

Blogtober | Week Two - Just A Feeling

As I get older, I realize more and more that I am a blessed human being with the amazing gift of life, love, happiness and health. And watching myself type that, or even say it out loud, seems trivial or pompous, and I don't want to come off as either. I also don't want to come off as ungrateful.  That's one of my biggest fears, actually, that I'll ever become ungrateful and take advantage of all these wonderful things in my life. Of course, I doubt I ever will be anything but grateful, and I suppose that's a good thing. And as I get older, I realize more and more that our world is full of grief and pain and sadness and fear and rage. And I look at it all, with my happy little life in mind, and I think to myself, "why me?"  To many, life sucks. I think life is amazing. Of course, it has it's ups and downs, as anything does. But I keep the best parts of it close to my heart, and when I analyze (as one can't help but do), it seems I am far more...

Blogtober | Week One - Your Typical Ode to Seasons & Travel

Image
I'm doing this cute little trend called "Blogtober" (if that wasn't obvious from this post's title). I like trends like these because it challenges me to stretch my mind in a way that I love much more than writing an essay for school. I adore October and all that comes with it, for the most part, so let's take an even deeper dive into my "seasonal" thoughts, shall we? --- You know that feeling when you're about to travel or see some place new? You call it anxiety or excitement or wanderlust, but it's something bigger entirely. Your body is preparing itself for something new and potentially crazy, and you're full of ridiculous expectations and indications for this trip to go 100% your way 100% of the time. Unfortunately, that's not true. It's not even conventional. But here you are, sitting on that tour bus, that airplane, that train, that van, that boat, humming to yourself with excitement about whatever the heck's gonna ...

Thumb Under The Chin

Image
I've had that "thumb under the chin and finger on my lips" kind of look lately. It's that look of focus, of pondering, of wonder and concern and speculation. I am curious about life and all that comes with it and I am fascinated by the cacophony of concepts that swirl around in my mind.  Some thoughts are good. Some are bad. Most are so big they won't even fit in my head, despite how I keep trying to squeeze them in. Some of them are like those little sponges we got as kids that grew when placed in water. They absorb and expand and inflate, full of new opinions and frivolous frights that eagerly replace all the soap bubbles. It's pretty cool, and pretty ridiculous at the same time. I catch myself making the "thumb under the chin and finger on my lips" look when doing all kinds of things, but mostly when I'm reading. I've been reading a lot lately. Mostly articles and forums and other media and social media, encasing my brain in whispers a...

Tame the Tears

That burning behind your eyes that can’t be compromised gives way to the spies who are devised among cries and lies. Tame the tears behind your eyes and create compromise instead of demise. For you will die; so will I, but try. Try .

Bright Things

I've been searching in all the wrong places for all the wrong things: for love in the wary waves of the ocean, for pain in the kind kiss of the sun, for fun in all matters material and for dreams in reality. They've been hiding in all the right faces of God and bright things for the joy of great jovial jumps, for the love of embraces that come in tons, for the laughter and light that draws near and for everything good in between.

Aqua

It's funny how water seems to boil faster when you ignore it... And how steam rises but it is rarely seen falling... And how icebergs could always be something much more below than what they seem from the surface... And how the moon reflects off the ocean like a dazzling beacon, and how the sunlight dances across the waves... And how bodies of water can be hundreds of thousands of miles away from each other and, under proper circumstances, are still as cohesive as ever... Not to mention: how -even in a world full of high expectations, rage and fear, and impatient tendencies- life can fill the emptiest of cups to the very brim, ever so plentiful.
